Skippy

Skippy is an Australian version of Lassie with a kangaroo named Skippy substituting for the stalwart collie. Skippy is smart, seems able to understand what people say, and communicates with her human friends through clicking sounds she makes. In each episode of the show, Skippy participates in the adventures experienced by a young boy living in Australian wild habitat areas.

Like Lassie, the show went through several cast changes and variations. In the first version, the show was about a widower park ranger named Matt Hammond mangaging a wildlife habitat in Australia who had two sons Mark and Sonny Hammond.. Other characters included Clancy Merrick, a veterinary assistant and Jerry King is a helicoptor pilot. Sonny, the younger of the two kids has a pet kangaroo, Skippy, who is involved in the stories which deal with people and events around the park. Sonny (Garry Pankhurst) wears black high tops in the shows.

Later, the show was about a family living in an animal habitat next to the Australian national park. In this version, the dad is named Sonny, raising two children, Jerry and Louise, who are the focus of the stories. Jerry is seen wearing black high top chucks in some of the shows. Other regulars include Kate Burgess, park veternarian, who works with the animals and their housekeeper "Phil".
