Little Known Fact About Back to the Future

Eric Stoltz and Christopher Lloyd in one of the original scenes from Back to the Future. Eric had to go but the chucks stayed.

Originally Eric Stoltz was cast in the part of Marty McFly, and much of the picture was shot with Eric playing the role. However, director Richard Zemeckis was not happy with the on-screen chemistry between Stoltz and Lloyd, because the effect seemed too serious. So he persuaded the studio to replace Stoltz with Fox, reshoot those scenes, and the rest is history.
