Finding a partially built but now abandoned farm house, she persuades the owner to let her stay and renovate the place in exchange for work as she pursues the difficult task of raising her kids and going after the American dream on a shoestring. Jeff Talley, a failed police hostage negotiator now a police chief in a small California town, must save the lives of a local family held hostage. But the situation turns out to be more complex than it initially seems, and the chief's family also are taken hostage, forcing Talley to use every skill and trick that he knows to try and save them. A group of friends on their way to a college football game falls prey to a pair of murderous brothers in an abandoned small town. They discover that the brothers have expanded upon the area's main attraction, the House of Wax, and created an entire town filled with the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors.
