Alexander Warren Hughes is an American singer-songwriter who originally began his career as a comedy YouTuber. Up until a few years ago, he was regularly posting the standard reaction, lifestyle, and clickbaity YouTube slop a lot of creators are known for. Then, in a rather abrupt 180, he began releasing serious music that doesn’t have much of a connection to his previous content. Now, he is at the top of the charts, with his song “Ordinary” reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and staying there for six weeks (at the time of writing). He’s now the face of the melodramatic movement in men’s pop music and is becoming quite polarizing in the process. The song “Give You Love” is an older song, but still a popular one. The music video was released on June 12th, 2023, and has accumulated over 1.4 million views.

This track, as the title implies, is all about love and sees Warren come to terms with his commitment issues after a history of past trauma. Of this song, Warren said, “‘Give You Love’ is about my struggles with trust…In every relationship, I gave it my all and let people in just to get hurt each time. This record was a plea to my now-fiancée, hoping that when we met, what I felt was reciprocated, and she wouldn’t betray or throw away my love.” Unsurprisingly, this track went mega-viral on TikTok, which in the end is what Warren and this melodramatic genre of pop was made for. These “trying so hard to be emotional” pop songs are perfect for TikToks that are also “trying so hard to be emotional”.
The visuals of this video include captions, which tell the couple’s story.
The music video is unsurprisingly also a love story, and it focuses on the real-life love story of Warren and his then-girlfriend Kouvr Annon. In the video, Warren and Kouvr recreate and revisit the moments and places in their love story. Warren is wearing optical white high top chucks, and the vibe is very relaxed between the two. There are captions that explain what happened in their lives in the spots they visit, recounting how they were homeless and struggling, but found peace in each other. It’s a very sweet story and they look very in love in the video, which is genuine as they married just a year later.
