Alexander Warren Hughes is an American singer-songwriter who originally began his career as a comedy YouTuber. Up until a few years ago, he was regularly posting the standard reaction, lifestyle, and clickbait YouTube slop that a lot of creators are known for these days. Then, in a rather abrupt 180, he began releasing serious music that doesn’t have much of a connection to his previous content. Now, in 2026, he is the unlikely current face of pop music. His song “Ordinary” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks over the 2025 summer and was only dethroned by the song “Golden” by Huntrix. This comes after the success of hits like “Before You Leave Me", "Save You a Seat", and "Carry You Home", and now Warren is the biggest male pop star in the US despite not being a household name. The song “Rescuer” is the fourth single off Warren’s upcoming second studio album, Wildchild. Warren first debuted it live at his Madison Square Garden concert on July 17th, 2026, and the song was officially released on August 7th, 2026, with an accompanying music video.

Those chucks are definitely not theme accurate.

“Rescuer” is a track built to showcase Warren’s emotive vocal delivery, which, to be fair, can be said about most of his music. Warren is a specialist in pop music that is meant to be loud and overly emotive, in a similar vein to Imagine Dragons and Benson Boone. The lyrics tell a heartfelt love-song narrative where Warren recounts how, as a teenager, his future wife chose to sleep in his car when they were both homeless, and how she later saved him. This makes the song a raw, personal ballad that lets Warren show off his raspy and emotive voice.

The music video for was directed by seasoned music video director Andrew Donoho, and premiered during a joint iHeartRadio and TikTok livestream event before the single’s release. In the video, Warren is in his car when he happens upon a lavish 17th-century–style baroque ball. He tries to enter wearing a hoodie and chucks and is initially turned away by a doorman. However, his wife, Kouvr, dressed as a princess, intervenes and lets him in. The two enjoy a romantic interlude in the castle where she gtes him dressed properly, although he keeps the chucks. Warren is then beaten by the doorman while waiting for Kouvr to run away with him. Kouvr then finds the bruised Alex outside and comforts him as they kiss. The video is cute as it shows the true love Warren and Kouvr have for each other, and there are plenty of humorous moments throughout.

The price of love is worth it.
