mgk has returned to hip-hop after a brief sojourn into the world of pop-punk. With his latest singles, he appears to be all in on hip-hop once more, and his newest release has an unexpected feature. Yuki Chiba (formerly known by the stage name Kohh) is a Japanese rapper, singer, and songwriter. Their joint single “JJK” was released on July 28th, 2026, and premiered with a music video.

mgk is blindingly yellow in this video.

“JJK” is a reference to the manga and anime series Jujutsu Kaisen, which is a story that focuses on high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Sorcerer named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. This song references not only JJK, but also other anime such as Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Hunter x Hunter, and Dragon Ball Z. In fact, the whole track shows the blend of Japanese and American culture that has occurred over the last thirty years, with mgk and Yuki Chiba trading verses in both Japanese and English. The beat is fast-paced and gives a techno Tokyo underground vibe. In the end, though, mgk’s verses are just a Mad Lib of anime references that reek of trying too hard.

The music video opens with mgk squatting next to a fountain. He is wearing a blindingly yellow tracksuit that pops as the only bit of color in the black-and-white video. That is, until Yuki Chiba shows up in an equally blinding red outfit. The other thing that pops is the pair of chucks being worn by one of mgk’s entourage, with the striking silhouette and toe cap easily seen against the gray background. The video is a pretty straightforward hip-hop video, in that it basically consists of mgk and Yuki Chiba rapping into the camera while pointing and crouching. The main visual flair comes from the color popping in and out, and the manga filter applied over the video. However, this, much like the song, is just a hollow reference to the subject matter that leaves the whole affair feeling empty.
